Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held in Bartolome House on Sunday 13 December 2009

Present: 27 members plus members of the Committee: Ian Baker (Chair), David Brown, Bernard Gregor-Smith (Artistic Director), Jennifer Hogg (Secretary, Derbyshire), Bridget Jackson (Acting Treasurer), Elspeth Wing (Secretary, Sheffield)

Apologies for Absence: Ellen Brookes

Thanks: The Chair thanked John Grundy and the Sheffield Music Academy for their support in providing the accommodation for 4strings88keys’ events.  He also thanked the tutors (Krysia Osostowicz, Giles Francis, Judith Busbridge, Bernard Gregor-Smith and Yolande Wrigley) for their concert on 12 December and for their inspiring tuition. The new web site was praised for its improved layout and appearance and George Wolfe thanked, in his absence.

The Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on Sunday 16 November 2008 were approved as a true record of the proceedings.

The Annual Report for June 2008 to June 2009 was received.

Secretaries’ Reports: The Secretary for Sheffield had nothing to add to the Annual Report.

The Secretary for Derbyshire’s Report summarised the success that had been achieved over the last twelve years. Given the current difficulty in finding suitable accommodation in Derbyshire and the excellent accommodation now available in Sheffield, she suggested that there should be no further events in Derbyshire.

Resignations: The Chair reported that Ian Baker and Jennifer Hogg had resigned as committee members and trustees.  He thanked Jennifer for her valuable contribution over the years. Bernard offered a vote of thanks to Ian for his time as chairperson.

The Treasurer’s Report was received.  It showed that 4strings88keys’ financial situation is sound.

The ‘Cello Day Report was received.

Election of the Committee

Chair: a nomination for a chairperson had been received.  It was agreed that the Committee would appoint an acting chairperson who would be confirmed in office at a future Annual General Meeting or Extraordinary General Meeting.

Treasurer: Bridget Jackson was unanimously elected into office as Treasurer, thereby becoming one of the signatories to 4strings88keys cheques.

The remaining members of The Committee (David Brown, Ellen Brookes and Elspeth Wing) were unanimously returned to office.

Future Events:  Details of the forthcoming ‘Cello Day in March 2010 had been publicised.  Bernard announced that the next chamber music weekend would be held either late in 2010 or early in 2011.

Any Other Business:  It was confirmed that plans are being made to launch a sister project to 4strings88keys in Barcelona. Members were advised to monitor developments on the website.

The Chair thanked George Wolfe for his splendid re-design of the website.
