This will be our 6th Cello Day in Sheffield
Bernard Gregor-Smith (Musical Director and cellist of international standing) together with:-
Ben Gregor-Smith, Helen Downham and Kathryn Winson are our 4 cello tutors*.
Karen Wentworth (Alexander Teacher) and Stefano Gibertoni (Instrument Maker) complete the team for the day.
Sheffield Music Academy has moved out from the University so we are moving to the brand new Music and Drama Suite at High Storrs School which was highly commended for both playing and social time when we held our last Chamber Music weekend there in October 2011.
Activities for the day will include cello ensembles at all levels both tutored and informal, open lessons, master-classes and a Bach class. An interactive workshop will aim to help with your €˜cello posture” to maximise your freedom to make music and to avoid potential future problems.
The Tutors’ recital will have the usual fascinating collection of cello music to end a rewarding, engaging, fun and sociable day.
The Junior Cello Day for younger children will include cello ensembles, a cello orchestra, plenty of musical fun and a concert for parents. Children will have the opportunity to take part in some of the activities of the €˜senior” Cello Day. This is being planned and co-ordinated by Kathryn Winson who we are delighted to welcome to 4/88 organising committee.
The day offers wonderful opportunities and fun for cellists of all ages and abilities
Cellist will be grouped in 4 ability levels from beginner to diploma with separate study programmes. Your playing will be enhanced through excellent tutors who have studied with some of the world’s greatest cellists
